Hi David
many thanks! I'm hoping it'll be useful. It's been a bit of a
labour of love (well I suppose all books are), but thought people might
like to learn from other researcher experiences! Still trying to
make it more accessible and international, but am hoping the website will
also go some way towards it.
Would be interested in your feedback when you've read the book.

- Dear All
- I've been working for a while on a book about doing research that
focuses on the 'how to' aspects of research, rather than just 'what to
do'. Having worked with consumer and user groups, as well as
researchers in different countries, often the practical aspects of
research (such as managing data, or researcher safety) are overlooked -
and even experienced researchers may struggle with them.
- The book is due out shortly, and it's accompanied by a website.
The reason for this is that people often have questions about
social/health research but aren't always able to ask for help (or get
useful advice). Alternatively they may have very useful tips and
resources to share. So the website covers various practical and
methodological aspects of research. It's free to use, anyone can
join and post, and it has the capacity to link to other conferences
etc. Although not everyone can access it at this time (since it's
an online service) it is designed so that people at all levels of
research - particularly those working on community projects, can get
advice and support from other academics/researchers. To ensure site
members can feel comfortable in posting the site is moderated (for
example it won't accept spam messages, nor insults to other site users
over spelling or grammar).
- If you want to use the site, you can find out more and register to
use it at
www.psypress.co.uk/boynton
- It's just gone live so is a bit quiet at the moment - although I'm
sure it'll liven up soon. Feel free to pass the link on to anyone
you feel may use it. I'm hoping we can try and bring in some of the
aims and philosophies of community psychology by having a free to use
community resource in the research messageboard that goes with this
site.
