Archives for London is a new group that aims to build links between archivists, records managers and archive users in the capital. Hopefully this information will prove interesting:

Archives for London update

Archives for London (AfL) is intended to provide a single focal point for the practitioners and users of archives in London. It will build on present good practice, information sharing and campaigns established by various networking bodies in the Greater London area, while providing greater coherence in presenting the archives and records agenda to the outside world.

An AfL Steering Committee has been formed to bring the new organisation into existence and three committee meetings of this group have been held (acting representatives are listed below). It includes representatives from organisations such as the Society of Archivists’ London Region; LARC; GLAN; and LAUF, as well as records management and collection care specialists.

AfL aims to be fully inclusive, welcoming institutional and individual members from records/information management, collection care/conservation, local studies librarian, community archive, archive user and practitioner backgrounds who have an interest in the Capital’s wider archives agenda.

A launch event is planned for Wednesday 6 July 2005 from 6pm featuring keynote speaker(s) and wine and nibbles, with a follow up event planned for September 2005 on a theme of interest to both archive users and practitioners. For those joining at the launch event, initial membership fees will be half-price.

Membership benefits include opportunities to:
