Hello again-count me in-I’d be happy to contribute paper, seminar or poster and would appreciate chat with you about which area---also, could we work up a service delivery model which put power mapping and family conferencing together and joint present??

National Community Psychology Conference 2005

Newcastle upon Tyne, Thurs 13th & Fri 14th October

Conference Theme:

Practice and Values in Community Psychology

Community psychology attempts to work alongside marginalised groups and communities to promote their interests.  It seeks to counter oppression and social injustice by sharing insights and methods from psychology, and promoting participative action.  However, community psychologists may themselves be working in systems and organisations whose interests and priorities are different to, and may be in conflict with, the interests of those marginalised groups.

This conference aims to:

  • Consider the scope for community psychology practice that reflects these values
  • Share examples of collaborative and participative work
  • Critically examine the concepts of empowerment, participation and inclusion in political and social context

We welcome expressions of interest for papers, workshops and posters which relate to any of these issues.  We also welcome discussion and debate around the conference theme.

At this stage, we would like to hear from you if you would like to contribute.  The deadline for summaries or abstracts (along with the details below) is Friday 8th July.  We particularly welcome contact from non-professionals and those working as part of community groups or initiatives.

The conference will take place in Newcastle on Thursday 13th (afternoon) and Friday 14th October (morning and afternoon) 2005.
