Dear Fay

Just to let you know that in the two museums I have worked at, North Somerset Museum and previously Chichester District Museum, SHIC was used.  It is useful to be able to have a standard form of classification and you do get used to it (even end up quoting SHIC numbers)!

Subject: [SHCG-LIST] SHIC

Dear All,

I have recently returned to working in a local social history museum after spending the last 6 years in specialised collections. The Museum has its own very basic 'museum code' which groups items in a number of broad subject areas. Previously when I worked in a local history museum SHIC was used but this museum has not used it to date. I have found SHIC useful in the past but before I purchase a copy and start using it I would be interested to know how widely it is still being used.

Thanks,

Fay Newman (Miss)
