I think it can be, Simon. If you *think of it spatially, then conceptually it is.
 
One can represent it in 2d and 3d and move around such representations as if they are physical objects
 
Is a space something we inhabit? There are many spaces I wouldn't want to inhabit.
 
I recall a friend who really really liked cars and repairing them. He was once under a car, doing Car-repairman things, for a very long time and suddenly announced "I could live here" to express his odd pleasure.

A space is something we inhabit. Do we inhabit databases? If so how?

The word "conceptual" has alot of work to do here.
