Perm’ possibly derives from the Finnish Perämaa (hinterland). St. Stephen of Perm’ (born c. 1345,Veliky Ustyug, principality of Vladimir-Suzdal [in Russia]; feast day April 26) created an alphabet for the Zyriane and translated liturgical texts into Old Permic language.
