There was a piece on this morning's "Today" programme saying that the government is to start work on a "happiness index," collating non-economic satisfaction  issues like self-worth, sense of community, etc. Would it be too much to hope that DCMS and MLA, jointly and severally, lobby to have the contribution of public libraries recognised and factored into the index so as to help preserve those parts of our services that aren't aimed at meeting the needs of businesses and the education industry?

Just my two penn'orth.
