Planning and building a taxonomy
Speaker: Stella Dextre Clarke
Date: 21 & 22 April 2005
If a taxonomy is to be effective as a tool for navigating information resources, it must be integrated with the other desktop tools and interfaces, and it must reflect user needs. This workshop looks at the whole environment in which the taxonomy operates, including the browse/search interface for end-users, and the procedures for indexing resources or categorising them automatically.
We will cover key issues of structure, presentation and ways of satisfying diverse user needs, and we'll look behind the scenes at how technological 'solutions' work. The exercises on Day Two will provide practical experience of assembling terms and concepts into user-friendly shape. Participants may bring up their own challenges for group discussion.
Fee: £650 + VAT (£763.75)
