Dear All,

I have been trying to get some sense out of anyone concerning the Year Abroad in the coming era of £3,000+ top-up fees. Currently, as I am sure you are aware, students going abroad on an Erasmus exchange have their fees waived. Students going abroad as assistants or on work placements have to pay 50% of fees, which is unfair, but not too much of a disincentive.

Has anyone received any official confirmation that this practice is to be continued after 2006? I know that 2008 (the first year to which this will apply) is a long way ahead, but it would help significantly with course planning if we knew whether the Year Abroad was going to continue to be a relatively cheap option or was going to become yet another obstacle to studying German.

Can we pool any knowledge we may already possess?

Best Wishes
