Flowers and Beauty Products Are Most Popular Women's Day Gifts in Russia Poll

Russian men believe that a bunch of flowers is the best present to give a
woman on March 8, widely celebrated in this country as International
Women's Day.

44 per cent of male respondents, polled by the Levada Center ahead of March
8, planned to present their women with flowers, while 46 per cent of women
said they would like to get them as a present. 1,600 people took part in
the survey.

Flowers are considered the best gift idea by men below 40, half of which
plan to make such a present to their loved ones, while only one-third of
men over 55 was going to do the same.

14 per cent of respondents said they planned to present their women with
beauty-care products and perfume, while 17 per cent of women said they
would like to receive them as a present. Such presents made, for the most
part, by men between 25 and 39, are mostly popular with girls under 25,
Interfax news agency reports.

19 per cent of men intend to present their mothers, daughters, wives or
girlfriends with candy, or cakes, while only 16 per cent of women look
forward to getting such presents. Men over 40 proved to be most willing to
make such gifts and women over 55 to receive them.

10 per cent of polled men said they would give a certain amount of money to
their women for the latter to decide for themselves what they want to buy.
Remarkably, just as many women 10 per cent of the respondents said they
would welcome "cash as compensation".

5 per cent of men said they would buy jewelry or accessories for their
loved ones. 10 per cent of female respondents said they would be happy to
get such a present.

3 per cent of male respondents intended to buy home appliances. Other
popular March 8 presents included chinaware, books, CDs, theater tickets,
etc. 1 per cent of respondents planned to invite their wives or girlfriends
to dine out. 4 per cent of women said they would gladly accept the invitation.

4 per cent of men said they did not plan to make any presents on March 8,
and 4 per cent of women said they did not expect any. At this, 6 per cent
of men said they have no one to congratulate on the day, while 8 per cent
of female respondents said there is no one from whom they could expect
greetings.
