CHAT in Dublin 2005 Hello everybody,

details of CHAT in Dublin are posted here.

I've also attached a UCD Summer School programme - forgive the indulgence but I feel that given the wide interests of Historical Archaeologists this may interest you or somebody you know (there's archaeology in it, but also a range of other cultural-studies matters as well), so please feel free to pass it on to anybody you know who might want to attend.

Tadhg

CHAT 2005 (Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory)
University College Dublin 18-20 November 2004

FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

CHAT is a new archaeology conference group providing opportunities for theoretically-informed dialogue to develop among researchers in the fields of later historical archaeology and the archaeology of the contemporary world. The inaugural meeting was held at the Archaeology Department, Bristol University, in 2003 (http://www.bris.ac.uk/Depts/Archaeology/events/chat.html), and the second meeting was at the School of Archaeology and Ancient History, University of Leicester, in November 2004 (http://www.le.ac.uk/ar/chat2004/index.htm).

The 2005 Dublin conference has three themes:

Polite and vernacular culture

Archaeologies of inequality

Neo-colonialism, post-colonialism

Aspiring contributors are requested to send proposed topics and abstracts (150 words) to Tadhg OšKeeffe [log in to unmask] by August 1st 2005, and to indicate the appropriate theme.

To keep up to date on developments in contemporary and historical archaeology, join the CHAT Email List (http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/CONTEMP-HIST-ARCH.html)

Further details of CHAT 2005, including details of venue and registration, will be posted on
http://www.ucd.ie/archdata/external/events/index.html in April.
