Dear Colleagues,

The Open University's Computing Research Centre is looking to recruit a 
Full Professor of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), of highest 
international calibre, to lead its research programme in this subject area. 
The post will be free from direct teaching duties for the first two years 
of appointment. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to play a 
key role in developing the Centre's research strategy and infrastructure, 
for which substantial financial investment may be available.

Chair in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)

The Open University is making a strategic (Full Professor) appointment in 
its Computing Research Centre (http://crc.open.ac.uk/) to further 
strengthen its focus on academic excellence. The Centre brings together key 
research teams from the Department of Computing, the Knowledge Media 
Institute, and Institute of Educational Technology. It undertakes 
distinctive, leading edge research in software and processes that underpin 
knowledge management, communication, learning, and interaction among humans 
and machines. The post is intended to further enhance existing research 
strengths in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), although candidates whose 
research bridges the gap between HCI and other research areas such as 
software engineering, language engineering, and knowledge engineering, will 
also be considered. The post will be free from direct teaching duties for 
the first two years.

The Open University is renowned as a world-class distance education 
institution that has a strong research tradition and record of achievement 
across a wide range of disciplines. Applicants for the Chair should be 
leading personalities of high international standing, who can demonstrate a 
track record of leading innovative research projects, publishing widely, 
and (preferably) working collaboratively with industrial partners and 
obtaining substantial research income from external agencies.
