italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Ed:
I'm in Italy right now. I might come to next year's conference. But I have
another question right now. Do you know anyone who is working on Jewish
conversion texts in the medieval period? This can be any variety of
conversion--Christian to Jewish/ Jewish to Christian/Islamic to Jewish/
Jewish to Islamic. The important feature is the Jew in the conversion
activity. I will be guest editing an edition of Jewish History based on my
panel at MAA last year. If you know anyone, please let me know.

> Dear Colleagues,
>
> 1. Friends in Italy tell me that Dario Fo did a Rai 3 television programme
> in January-February, together with Giorgio Albertazzi, on Arabic influences
> in Dante. Is it possible that someone out there has a video copy of the
> programme?
>
> 2. In case any of you are wondering what happened to our series of
> conferences on "Arabic and Judaic Influences in and around Dante Alighieri",
> they auto-destructed over questions arising out of the Palestinian intifada.
>
> 3. However the spirit of these conferences lives on. It was, for instance,
> embodied in our recent conference "Muwashshahaat: Arabic and Hebrew strophic
> poetry and its Romance parallels" [SOAS, October 2004]. The proceedings of
> that conference are now being prepared for publication and will be available
> through the SOAS bookshop.
>
> 4. A further initiative in the same spirit will be the "Andalus Conference:
> Cross-overs from the Arabic and Jewish Culture of al-Andalus into Early
> Europe", to be held in Cambridge (UK) in September 2006. Papers in any field
> pertaining to the topic are invited. If you are interested in presenting a
> paper at this conference, please contact me at the above address.
