Subject: Records Management seminar 12 May and Archival Description seminar 16 June

With apologies for cross-posting:

We are running a couple of seminars in May and June which are intended
for more experienced practitioners (they work well as a brush-up
course if you haven't been doing much work in the are recently as
well). You can book on-line for both already.

The Records Management seminar on the 12 May in London covers four key
areas of records management:

* Legal issues, focusing on Data Protection and Freedom of Information
but including other legislation affecting records management.

* Records Management standards, covered in a practical exercise
designed to develop audit tools for RM programmes.

* Appraisal and retention scheduling, examined in a workshop; to
ensure maximum benefit participants should bring examples of lists of
file series or record survey documentation.

* Vital records management and business continuity planning.

The seminar advocates managing all records according to the same
principles regardless of media so there is no separate coverage of
digital records. For more detail see:
http://www.archive-skills.com/training/2005/12-5.php

The Description Seminar on the 16th June (also in London) begins with
a session on managing the description function, followed by an
in-depth session on ISAD(G) and how to apply it to new description as
well as converting older catalogues for compliance with the standard.
There will then be an introduction to using ISAAR and the data bank of
ISAAR administrative histories and biographies. After lunch there is a
case study on using EAD to mount ISAD(G) compliant description on
Websites. A session on technology is followed by a final facilitated
group discussion to enable participants to develop their own action
plans.

http://www.archive-skills.com/training/2005/16-6.php gives more detail

Each seminar costs =A3129.25 per participant (incl. VAT at 17.5%)
