In researching history of mining in the Buckfastleigh area, I am trying to discover if there is any information about Sir George Elliott MP, who was involved in a revival there in the 1870's. There is plenty available about his involvement in the coal industry, in which he was hugely influential, (see DNB for a start), but I have been unable to find anything about any involvement in metal mining beyond the refs in the List of Mines etc. Can anyone help with any sources? I have found newspaper refs to his involment also in reopening slate quarries in the area - but I don't know which ones. Alasdair Neill.
