Dissemination, application and assessment of LCA in companies
18th March, Zürich (in German)

400 ISO-14001-certified and 170 listed companies were asked about the application of life cycle assessment in the course of a research study of the University of St. Gallen. For the first time, empirically founded first hand knowledge is available on the dissemination and on the concrete shaping and assessment of these tools. These results serve as the starting point of a position finding after about 30 years of LCA theory and practice, expressing requirements and expectations for future developments.

Life cycle approaches for Green Investment
7th June,
Lausanne

Nowadays, most financial institutions use some kind of environmental indicators such as energy, CO2, resources use for the assessment of companies. This allows them to screen a range of companies and construct "green" investment funds. To support effective green investments, there is a high need to have better criteria and tools to assess companies and measure their life cycle environmental performance, including supply chain as well as products use and disposal. The forum will explore the current use of environmental indicators and discuss whether and how to apply LCA approaches for screening listed companies with respect to their environmental impact.

LCA in Industry: Challenges and Appoaches to make it more practical
17th November, Zürich

This forum will present practical and scientific approaches for performing LCA in companies, in particular chemical and material industry. Approaches for simplifying the application of LCA and their implementation in industry will be presented, such as generic inventory tools for chemical production and end-of-pipe processes. The discussion forum will facilitate the exchange of experience between practitioners from industry and developers of LCA tools. The applicability and validity of the tools presented will be discussed and conclusions will be drawn on practical advice and further research needs.
