There is an Alexander Lawrie listed as Manager at Hayside mine Kilmarnock in 1884. He is presumably the same person listed as a Manager of Colliery, aged 29, in the 1881 census living at West Plann Farm, Kilmaurs. If so which colliery is he listed under and holding what position? I am expecting to find him listed possibly under Ayrshire or possibly another Scottish coalfield as a colliery manager or under manager. He should not appear after 1890 after which time he went to open up coal mines in Cyphergat in the Western Cape of South Africa.
