medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Dear Sandra

The imagery of the seraphic choirs singing God's praises occur in a musical
context and inspired Renaissance composers such as Guerrero and Victoria to
compose motets such as "Duo seraphim". If I recall rightly it is regarded
as innovative in that it employed double choirs. There is a recording with
notes on a CD set entitles El siglo d'oro : Spanish sacred music from Das
Alte Werke, Cat. no. 2292460032, which may give an example of earthly
choirs imitating heavenly choirs.
Seeing your student is German a possible useful contact would be Abbot Pius
Engelbert, OSB of Gerleve Abbey (Germany). He taught mediaeval history in
Rome and was the promoter of the cause of Hildegard of Bingen, until his
election as abbot.

Yours
Wyn
