Allegro Training is offering this basic introduction to using Library of Congress Subject Headings as part of a two week training residency in Scotland in February 2005.  This course will also be run in London in March 2005

WORD GAMES: An introduction to Library of Congress Subject Headings
This course is not subject specific and draws examples from a range of subject areas.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is intended for anyone involved with the provision of subject headings for general library or archival materials using Library of Congress Subject Headings. This course does not consider other subject heading lists.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the day delegates will have

*   Considered the basic principles of LCSH
*   Examined the basic structure of headings
*   Know how to use geographic names as headings
*   Used subdivisions and considered special types of material
*   Examined the MARC21 provision for LCSH
*   Practised applying techniques to real examples
