Dear All There seems to be some misunderstanding. It is not an explanation of the formula for converting metres (or inches) into hands which I require (I understand and have used this method); it is the full reference for the Clutton Brock article in which this method is given. (I want to add it to my bibliography). Thanks anyway Angela Fitzpatrick Date sent: Fri, 18 Nov 2005 20:03:19 +0100 Send reply to: Tommy Tyrberg <[log in to unmask]> From: Tommy Tyrberg <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: [ZOOARCH] Reference for Clutton-Brock To: [log in to unmask] It doesn't seem very complicated. Since there are three hands to a foot and 3.281 feet to a meter, one meter is = 9.843 hands. Simply dividing hands by 10 is probably good enough (I strongly doubt that horses are normally measured to a precision better than 1.57 % in any case). Tommy Tyrberg
