Introduction and program:

This is to announce an e-conference on the subject of adding archaeological science data to the SMR/HER (Sites and Monuments Records/Historic Environment Records) which is going to take place from the 17th of January. Some lists have had advance warning through an e-mail message sent by Jacqui Huntley on the 21st of December which explains the background to this (letter in storefile, see below). The need to have more archaeological science data accessible on the HER systems has been identified and discussed during three workshops composed of EH (English Heritage) archaeological science advisers and specialists,  Local Authorities SMR/HER officers and curators, EH NMR (National Monuments Records) and FISH representatives and university researchers. During the workshops, the level of details needed, the mechanisms for implementation of the recommendations and the nomenclature to be used have been discussed. They are the topics of this e-mail conference.

If you are interested and wish to participite in the discussion, all you need to do is to subscribe to the FISH
(Forum on Information Standards in Heritage) list which you access from the jiscmail site at the following address:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa.exe?SUBED1=fish&A=1 , join by simply clicking in the subscribe window (you will see that it is just as easy to unsubscribe when the conference is over) and read and write as you please.

The messages on the FISH discussion list will be kept short but they will clearly indicate the file names of longer papers, tables and other material for discussion held in the FISH storefiles where they will be listed together with the prefixe archsci:
