  Introduction

JISC and a-n The Artist Information Company invite expressions of interest
from all academic institutions regarding an agreement to provide online
access to publications and programmes offered by a-n.

a-n is the leading commentator on contemporary visual artists’ practice
and is a vital research resource for those involved with art and design as
tutors, advisers and researchers and for art and design students within
professional and critical practice. a-n also plays a strategic role as the
UK’s representative body for artists, and as a trusted advisor to employers
of artists, provides the basis for defining the common ground that builds
professional relationships, generates quality in the visual arts and
supports employment strategies for the visual arts sector.

  The Offer

As with all the resources in the JISC Collection, a-n.co.uk will be
delivered online and will use Athens Authentication allowing users to access
the resource 24/7 from anywhere with an Internet connection. The JISC model
license will be used which means that sections, images and text from the
resource can be downloaded, copied, printed, and incorporated into learning
materials, student assignments and teaching packs. The agreement will be for
three years.

If an institution subscribes to a-n.co.uk through JISC they will receive:

  • Unlimited concurrent access for the whole institution to a-n.co.uk which
provides all the latest visual arts news, hundreds of searchable artist
profiles, unique month-by-month coverage of UK artist-led projects and
events and professional practice resources.

  • Online Access to the a-n Magazine – the monthly magazine for artists
about contemporary visual arts practice and burning issues. Articles and
features commissioned by a UK-wide editorial team of artists, curators and
commentators on topics including socially-engaged practice, curatorial
developments, public art, artist-led projects and collaborations, arts
policy, new contexts for practice, plus artists’ stories and insights into
networking in the UK and beyond, reviews, arts news, Opportunities, What’s
on and Directory of arts services. Regular annual features include art and
design degree shows, professional development options and artist-led
initiatives.

  • Online access to the a-n magazine archive which includes over 48 back
issues all catalogued and fully searchable.

information on all salaried and freelance posts in arts development,
academic research, consultancy, curating and galleries.

artists’ initiatives, artists’ stories, engaged practice, exhibiting,
