Apologies for cross posting Dear all, On the 19/20 April the Maths, Stats & OR Network is running its inaugural workshop for External Examiners (both prospective and current). This workshop will be valuable to many groups of people including: · Those who are currently external examiners: to keep abreast of forthcoming developments in the way external examining operates; · Those who are thinking of becoming external examiners: to gain a clearer picture of what will be expected of them; · Heads of Department and others involved with internal QA processes: to ensure that they are up-to-date with what the QAA, and others, expect regarding the role of external examiners. The workshop will cover External Examining from four different, but clearly related, perspectives: · The External Examiner; · The Institutional Quality Manager; · The Higher Education Academy; · The Head of Department. In addition to presentations by experienced speakers, there will be interactive sessions during which participants will address a range of issues relating to external examining. There will also be the opportunity for delegates to engage in informal discussion with both the speakers and each other. Although this event is primarily aimed at those involved with the External Examining process in Mathematics and Statistics, many of the issues covered will be of direct relevance to External Examiners from other disciplines. The fee for this residential event, held at the Conference Park, University of Birmingham, is £120 and includes all meals and accommodation. If you would prefer to attend only the daytime sessions then the fee is £70 (£85 if you wish to attend for the evening meal). A full programme and an online booking form for this event can be found on our website at http://mathstore.ac.uk/workshops/externalexaminers/index.shtml Dr Fiona Adamson Project Officer Maths, Stats & OR Network - a subject centre of the Higher Education Academy School of Mathematics University of Birmingham Edgbaston Birmingham B15 2TT
