I am posting for a colleague.

Research assistant position (BSc level) and Post-doctoral fellowship
position available in the Department of Anesthesia, Division of Pain
Management and the Neuroscience Institute at Stanford University to
investigate the neural mechanisms and treatments for chronic pain. The
focus will be in the use of brain and spinal cord functional MRI
techniques. Ongoing experiments in healthy subjects and patients with
chronic pain range from (1) investigations of neural plasticity due to
pain, (2) characterization of pain processing in the spinal cord, (3) use
of real-time fMRI techniques as both a treatment for chronic pain as well
as tool for understanding cognitive/affective networks involved with pain.
This work includes a significant amount of time spent with chronic pain
patients. This is a fast-paced and exciting collaboration pursuing a
variety of cognitive science and clinical research goals and involving
research groups in the departments of Psychology, Psychiatry, and Radiology
at Stanford. Stanford houses three state-of-the-art human scanning systems
(7.0, 3.0 and 1.5T) devoted exclusively to research purposes. The
successful candidate will be exceptionally highly motivated and hard
working and have very strong references. fMRI background preferred, but not
essential. Passion to pursue research that makes a real, practical
difference is central. Quantitative/analytical skills and programming
experience will also be valuable. Four year college degree or equivalent
in the field of Physical /Biological or social sciences required, and one
year of related experience preferred. Please send CV, letter of interest,
and names, email addresses and phone numbers of three references to: Sean
