3rd Workshop on Multi-Agent Systems: Theory and Applications (MASTA 2005) [http://masta.epia05.di.ubi.pt] To be held at the 12th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence EPIA '05 [http://epia05.di.ubi.pt/] December, 5-8, 2005, Covilhã, Portugal Call for Papers ------------------------------------------------------------ Download the Call for Papers in PDF: http://epia05.di.ubi.pt/CFP_Masta05.pdf ------------------------------------------------------------ Workshop Description -------------------- Since 1993 the area of Multi-Agent Systems/Distributed Artificial Intelligence has been present in the EPIA conferences, both as individual tracks in the main conference and as autonomous workshops. Focusing on a fundamental area of research in Artificial Intelligence, the 3rd MASTA workshop will be, in the context of EPIA’05, the forum for presenting and discussing the most recent and innovative work in the area of multi-agent systems. Departing, from the end of the 1980’s, from the two main branches of Decentralized AI and Distributed Problem Solving, research in Distributed Artificial Intelligence/Multi-Agent Systems has developed in areas of increase specialisation and autonomy as diverse as: agent-oriented programming and software engineering; cognitive modelling; swarm intelligence; coordination in MAS; social organisation modelling; social simulation; agent architectures; and many more. Today, besides the existence of countless application areas, theoretical research in these topics has also a great activity and development. Being a young research area, a lot of work is still to be done, both on its foundations and on the methodological approaches that will allow for a better grounding of the results obtained. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a discussion forum on the most recent and innovative work in the areas of multi-agent systems and autonomous agents. The unifying focus of the workshop will be on the methodological aspects. Both theoretical research and practical one should be situated in the context of existing/new methodologies for developing agents and multi-agent systems. This will not preclude any specific topic, but preference will be given to research work that establishes some connection with the methodological aspects or to successful applications built upon some methodology. Some topics of special interest are: ------------------------------------ Agent Architectures Agent Programming Languages Agent-Based Applications Agent-Oriented Software Engineering Automated Negotiation and Decision Making Artificial Social Systems Cooperation, Coordination and Communication in MAS Multi-Agent Evolution, Adaptation and Learning Multi-Agent Simulation & Modelling Formal Methods for Modelling Agent-Based Systems Scalability and Performance of MAS Industrial and Commercial Applications Important Dates --------------- Full Paper: 27 May 2005 Author Notification: 15 July 2005 Deadline for Final Camera-Ready Copies: 28 July 2005 Paper Submission and Reviewing Process -------------------------------------- Authors are invited to submit original research contributions or experience reports in English. Scientific or technical articles describing state-of-the-art techniques, algorithms, systems, environments, problems or applications relevant to the area of Multi-Agent Systems/Distributed Artificial Intelligence may be submitted. Two types of submissions will be considered: full papers and short papers. Full papers will be allocated a slot of 25 minutes for its presentation plus 10 minutes of discussion. Short papers will be allocated a slot of 15 + 5 minutes. The length of submitted full papers must not exceed 12 pages and posters should be up to 5 pages. The Springer LNCS format must be used. Authors must prepare their submissions according to the instructions given by Springer-Verlag (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.htm/). You can find more information on the website of the Conference under the submission menu. Submissions will be made by electronic means, in PDF format, through the submission page available in the EPIA 2005 website. In order to make blind reviewing possible, submissions must be anonymous. This requires that authors exercise some care not to identify themselves in their contributions. When referring to one's own work, authors must use the third person rather than the first person. References should include all published literature relevant to the paper, including previous works of the authors but it should not include unpublished works. In order to have papers published at least one of the authors should be registered in the EPIA Conference. At least three program committee members with recognized expertise in described field will review each submission. Workshop high quality full papers will be selected for publication in the main volume of conference proceedings, to be published by Springer, in the LNAI series. Good quality papers not selected for publication in the main volume conference proceedings and selected posters will be published in local workshop proceedings, in hard-copy, in CD-ROM and in the web.
