Inspiring Leadership:
Experiential Learning and Leadership Development

The 10th International Conference on Experiential Learning
10 – 14 July 2006
Lancaster, United Kingdom

hosted by the Brathay Academy

in partnership with

The International Consortium for Experiential Education (ICEL)

The International Conference on Experiential Learning returns to the UK for the first time since the inaugural conference in London in 1987.  The conference is aimed at practitioners, educators/teachers, trainers, community leaders, therapists, managers, policy-makers, researchers and others interested in experiential learning.

The conference will provide a unique opportunity to showcase and exchange ideas and insights about the nature of leadership and how the process of experiential learning can develop and strengthen leadership for individuals, groups, companies, communities and society on a local, national and international level. It will also ask key questions about leadership for the future.  There will be a range of strands including:

 * Youth Leadership                                        * Business Leadership
    * Leadership in Education                              * Community Leadership
    * Leadership for Health                                  *Leadership and the Environment
 * Leadership and Mentoring                          * International leadership

Come join in the celebrations, as the conference will be a celebration of Brathay’s 60th Anniversary and ICEL’s 10th International Conference. These celebrations will provide a framework from which the conference will look at the history of experiential learning, viewed both from Brathay’s work over the past 60 years and also from the perspective of international developments since ICEL’s inaugural conference in 1987.  A number of events will celebrate these significant milestones.

Who are we?

Brathay is a people development organisation with a unique sense of purpose: that people should learn to learn from experience.  Brathay applies its know-how to inspire deep and lasting personal change across a complete range of people from youth to boardroom.  Brathay’s experiential Brathay is an educational charity and social enterprise, ploughing funds back into youth work.  The Brathay Academy brings together research, theory and practice and provides a source for innovation, development and influence. www.brathay.org.uk/academy_home.asp

ICEL is the International Consortium for Experiential Learning.  It is a network of organisations and individuals whose aim is to promote experiential learning at a global and international level.  It is governed by a steering committee who work through a network of regional representatives.  ICEL offers an international forum for dialogue among practitioners, theoreticians and administrators in the diverse fields of experiential learning.  It is particularly concerned with experiential learning as a vehicle for personal, social and global change as well as institutional and community applications.
