Hello,

Not a book but a web resource: the Association of Medical Research
Charities website has a page of links to the areas of our members'
websites that are designed and written for young people. All are
specific to medical research/ medical conditions but have some fantastic
educational resources perhaps useful for biology or citizenship classes.

The link is http://www.amrc.org.uk/index.asp?id=12085

Hope you find something useful!

The BA currently has a children's fiction booklist on scientific themes
available to download at this site.

        Dear List

I'm after suggestions for books about science to appeal to
secondary school pupils with learning difficulties (hard to be specific
because we have children with a real variety of problems!). (I'm
currently working as a teaching assistant and our school library has
some money to improve its selection of books for the pupils with special
educational needs.) Most of the books which would instantly spring to
mind because they have a limited amount of text are squarely aimed at
younger children, so they're really not appropriate. The school has the
'horrible science' series, which are really fun, but much too 'text
heavy.' What we need are books that are not too babyish for 11 to 16
years olds, but which are also not off-putting in terms of the level of
the vocabulary and the amount of writing.

Although I'm primarily interested in books, if anyone has
suggestions for other great resources (CD-ROMs, videos, websites....)
which might appeal to our students I'd love to hear them!

        Thanks,

        Kirstie
