Job vacancy: Press Assistant – BA Festival of Science

Job vacancy: Press Assistant – BA Festival of Science

The BA Festival of Science will take place in Dublin from 3-10 September, bringing over 300 of the UK and Ireland’s top scientists and engineers to discuss the latest developments in science with the public. In addition to talks and debates at Trinity College Dublin, there will be a host of events throughout the city as part of the Festival in the City programme. For further information, visit www.the-ba.net/festivalofscience.

The Festival generates a great deal of press interest, and the BA runs a strong press operation, providing journalists with speakers’ papers, holding press conferences and running the Festival Press Centre.

The BA is recruiting for a Press Assistant to assist in the run-up to, during and immediately after the Festival. Your duties are likely to include assisting with:

§               Collating press papers
§       Identifying newsworthy stories
§       Promoting the Festival
§       Co-ordinating a team of student helpers at the Festival
§       Setting up press conferences
§       Answering media registration and enquiries
§       Media evaluation post-Festival

It is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working with the press in a scientific context and in a fun but hectic environment.

The Press Assistant will ideally begin work in early July and will work until at least mid-September. The role is offered at a salary of £16,000 pro rata.

For more information about this position, and for details of how to apply, please visit the BA website at http://www.the-ba.net/jobs or call Craig Brierley on 020 7019 4947.

Closing date for applications: Friday 20 May
