I must enjoin you to read (if you do not already know) this gripping &
moving report by Amitav Ghosh on the aftermath of the tsunami in the
Andaman & Nicobar islands: it's not just an amassment of depressing
facts but a journey into the immensity of loss; it finishes by
implicitly asking questions about the nature of attachment, memory &
identity. And the suffering survivors were mostly eager for their names
&/or plights to be recorded - restitution of a shadow of that dignity,
perhaps, that destitution had deprived them of:
