There will be a EURO Summer Institute on "OR in Healthcare", to be held at the University of Southampton, July 24- August 5, 2005.

EURO Summer Institutes are for new researchers - i.e., people with less than 10 years’ experience in OR. The main aim of an ESI is to provide the opportunity to make friends and research contacts with other people in your area, which hopefully will prove fruitful throughout your future career. Therefore the ESI is designed with social activities at the forefront, while at the same time giving you the chance to hear about each other’s research and also attend tutorial sessions by leading international experts in the area.

The keynote speakers at the ESI include Ed Kaplan from Yale University (USA), Mike Carter from the University of Toronto (Canada), Jan Vissers from the University of Twente (Netherlands), Ruth Davies from the University of Warwick (UK) and Steve Gallivan from University College London (UK). A special feature of this ESI is that the second week will be held jointly with the 31st Annual Conference of the EURO Working Group on OR Applied to Health Services (ORAHS). Thus ESI participants will get free attendance at the ORAHS meeting and will hear presentations by the major researchers in this field in Europe - plus, have a good time!

Each national OR Society is entitled to send at least one participant (and possibly up to three) to the ESI. All the costs of the ESI are met by EURO, excluding the participants’ travel expenses which are normally met by the corresponding national OR Society. If you wish to attend you should therefore contact your national society. You will need to submit a CV and a fully-written paper, suitable for consideration for publication in EJOR. A special issue of EJOR will be produced dedicated to the papers presented at the ESI.  If more than one candidate applies from any given country, the relevant national OR Society will make a judgement, in consultation with the ESI Programme Committee.
