Fully funded PhD positions sponsored by the European Union Marie Curie Programme, based at Brunel University, West London The research training programme involved includes a programme of skills training, two research placements in leading EU universities and an industrial secondment, leading to a PhD degree. In total there are ten posts available in Network Theory and Applications to Computing and Engineering see: http://www.brunel.ac.uk/net-ace/home.shtml Two of these posts are described below. If you are interested in these areas we would encourage you to apply. J E Beasley http://www.brunel.ac.uk/depts/ma/research/jeb/jeb.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robust network optimisation and sensitivity analysis - models and algorithms Performance and reliability are key issues in network design. In this project vertex and edge performance and reliability are modelled stochastically and algorithms are developed that determine least cost structures that satisfy a specified network performance and reliability profile. Multi-objective network modelling and algorithms - development of efficient Pareto-optimal algorithms In many network applications, there are several possible quality measures (often non-commensurate) that can be used to evaluate any given network design. In this project, multi-objective optimisation algorithms will be developed that exploit network structure. An efficient frontier of Pareto-optimal network structures will be produced, from which the most preferred structure may be selected.
