Midwives Muddles – the autumn season begins! Who are Midwives Muddles for? Anyone interested in midwifery or childbirth You are warmly invited to two cosy evenings away from the daily grind. Gather round the fireplace with coffee and chocolates after a sumptuous supper, relax and be inspired. THESE EVENTS ARE COMPLETELY FREE (We welcome a voluntary contribution of £3 towards speaker’s expenses) 1. A trip up the Kyber! An ordinary midwife, extraordinary stories Thursday 13th November 2005, 7.30 – 10.00 pm 1 Abingdon Mews, West Malling, ME19 6QH Emma Dipper is a community midwife (on her pushbike!) in London. Until February of this year she and her family were aid workers in Afghanistan. Whilst Emma's role was primarily in Disaster Management she also provided midwifery care to the expatriate community in Kabul. Listen to an ordinary midwife sharing extraordinary stories. 2. Christmas Special – Tuesday 13th December 2005 An evening with Jennifer Worth, author of “Call the Midwife” 7.30 – 10.00 pm 1 Abingdon Mews, West Malling, ME19 6QH Jennifer Worth is a retired midwife in her 70s. She trained as a midwife in the 1950s in the East End of London, and has written about her experiences in “Call the Midwife” (Merton Books, 2002) and her latest book “In the shadows of the workhouse” (2005). She is currently cycling around the world on her pushbike raising money for the NCT! Gather around the Christmas tree with mince pies and mulled wine to hear Jennifer tell some of her amazing stories from midwifery at the beginning of the NHS. We are midwives in Kent who want to make a difference. Travel and Parking *Please let us know if you need a lift* Abingdon Mews is a small alleyway just off West Malling High Street. It’s a new development so you won’t find it on the map, but it’s very easy to find. From M20, junction 4, take A228 towards West Malling. At the lights turn right on A20 towards West Malling. At the next roundabout, turn left towards the Town Centre, continue up Town Hill past West Malling Garage and over the railway bridge. Abingdon Mews is on the left just after the Bull Inn and the Thai Restaurant, opposite the Millennium Statue and the Therapy Rooms. No 1 is at the end of the mews on the left, behind wrought iron gates. Please do not bring your car into Abingdon Mews, as it is very narrow and there is no place to park. There are usually plenty of spaces on the high street, and there are two free car parks off West Malling High Street, just a short stroll from Abingdon Mews.
