An invitation to
join our Thesis Database
After a few teething problems, the MIDIRS Thesis database is now up and running. You do not need to be a subscriber to MIDIRS to enter your details on the database but only subscribers will be able to access the entries, as with all our other services.
The database will include completed PhD theses and information about ones that are currently underway. Apart from the mandatory fields, the amount of information you attach to the entry is one of personal choice. In view of ease of access, I would suggest that you limit downloads from your thesis to particular sections rather than downloading it as an entire document. Please contact us of you have any difficulty doing this.
Entry to the database is on-line via the MIDIRS website. Before you access the database to submit your entry, it would be a good idea to have constructed an abstract in the conventional format for your methodology, ie, structured abstract to include design, sample, methods, analysis and results for quantitative research approaches and research question, method and evidence of trustworthiness for qualitative approaches. As noted earlier, there are a series of mandatory fields which you will need to complete for the entry to be accepted. Once you have submitted your details these will be checked by the editorial and information teams for completeness and accuracy and then entered onto the database. You will be informed when this has been completed.
We operate within the regulations for data protection and so we will keep a record of the information in order to keep in contact with you and to update the database when needed. Where your work is currently underway, we will contact you around the time you have given for completion and will maintain this contact until your PhD has been granted. If you withdraw from your study, your entry will also be withdrawn.
Within the current context of the academic world, we acknowledge that there is a risk of plagiarism and the copying of ideas from the data available via this database. We suggest that you do not submit an entry to the database until your studies are at least confirmed and registered with a University and you have started work on your thesis. Regretfully, both of these problems are not something that we can monitor but if you have any concerns about these issues, or become aware that these might have occurred, please contact us.
We look forward
to including your information on our new resource.
With best wishes
