Call for articles about The Michael Jackson Trial

* How does Michael Jackson's trial, and the associated media spectacle, mobilises ideas about gender, race, class, the body, queer, sexuality, power, childhood/adulthood, fandom and celebrity?
* What does the reporting tell us about phenomena such as 'trial by television', the media event, the use of chat shows or dramatic reconstructions and the role of personal testimony?
* How is the story resonating across cultural and national borders?
* What are the socio-political contexts and implications of this major media spectacle?

Jenny Kitzinger and Sujata Moorti are editing a special issue of the international journal 'Social Semiotics' and are inviting contributions around these and related questions.

If you are interested please send us a brief outline (no more than one page) by ** 16th May 2005 ** (with all your contact details). We will then select from these abstracts to invite submission of full articles.

The deadline for submission of complete articles is July 30th 2005 (with the opportunity to revise articles after peer review by October). This will allow for timely publication in 2006.

If you have any queries please contact Jenny Kitzinger on [log in to unmask] Alternatively, telephone Jenny in the UK on 02920 874571 (or Sujata Moorti, in the US, on 802-443-5674.)
