News from UKeiG: 31st May 2005: For immediate release

UKeiG publishes latest edition of e-newsletter eLucidate
UKeiG - UK eInformation Group release a copy of their members' e-newsletter eLucidate (Volume 2 Number 3 - May/June 2005)

The May/June 2005 edition of eLucidate leads with an article by Peter Underwood on reform within South African Higher Education. This article focuses on the challenges that the pre-1994 legacy higher education system in South African presents, and the proposed changes which aim to make higher education more accessible. The changes recognise the importance of ICT and call for an upgrading of the ICT infrastructure across the board. The article discusses other proposed changes in terms of skills, research capability and reducing the number of higher education institutions.

This edition also includes an overview by Jane Secker and Maria Bell of the Librarians' Information Literacy Annual Conference held in April and a review of the Maxine Meller book Supporting e-learning: a guide for library and information managers. There are also practical tips on storing and indexing online information resources by Chris Armstrong. In addition, Helen Day provides a case study on the successful introduction of a user-centric intranet at Boots plc, developed to integrate seven existing intranets that had evolved over time.

Elucidate is available to UKeiG members via the UKeiG website at http://www.ukeig.org.uk/content/public/activities/newsletter/index.html. For those that have requested a PDF version of eLucidate, this was distributed last week.
