Does Tony really think that the proper recognition - including financial recognition - of professional qualification & expertise isn't particularly important?
And wasn't one of the arguments in support of the changes to the subscription structure that it would encourage lots of new members & make it easier for existing members to renew, thereby increasing subscription revenue? So perhaps the loss of income from a few advertisements wouldn't have such an impact, & CILIP could take a principled stand against low pay?

My view has always been that these adverts should be turned away but that the issue is not a particularly important one.
Or
we could just close Enterprises and see our Cilip subscriptions double.

Hello
I think this is an
instance where CILIP could and should have stepped in.
I know there is an
argument that if you are desperate for a job/experience you may be tempted to
apply for things at such shocking pay but at least if CILIP stepped in
to try to show said employer the error of their ways and, if unsuccessful
refused to accept the advert and then publicised that fact in the Gazette or
Update then any qualified librarian who did apply (if the ad was run
elsewhere), would do so knowing they were going against the express advice of
their professional colleagues. It might make some people think twice. A
kite mark for CILIP approved adverts has been discussed before hasn't
it-perhaps that is some kind of answer?

Just to say I hope colleagues won't start an IKEA-style stampede to apply for the British Museum job (p. 12). I mean, degree, experience, chartership and languages-all for 16k!!
Seriously, are they having a laugh? Or are the BM a bit strapped for cash?
