I have been biding my time since the huge flurry of emails around the proposed (now actual) changes to subscription for Cilip membership.

Towards the end of that debate, I was slightly hopeful that Cilip would take up the challenge of engaging with its members, potential members and non members in what they wanted, how they could help, what Cilip currently offered et etc. I even had an email from a Cilip Council member asking what could be done.

And what have we had since the AGM, well, it seems to me nothing.

It is high time Cilip came out of its closet and actually stated what is its role in the discussion re posts that pay a pittance. What way they can help staff in the information services, and what they intend to do about appalling salaries. Lets have that big debate, maybe some regional meetings, maybe some small intimate meetings discussing ALL the issues raised  last time we went round this particular. Is Cilip a responsive membership organisation?.

Come on Bob, lets hear it from you and your advisors, lets get some action on this long running saga!

Some of your members need help!!  and of course are poised to renew or not, their subscription. (do you even see these emails?).

Yes I do, which is why I hold the opinion I've stated, but accepting paid advertising for a recruitment free sheet is not an especially important element in big picture.

Does Tony really think that the proper recognition - including financial recognition - of professional qualification & expertise isn't particularly important?

And wasn't one of the arguments in support of the changes to the subscription structure that it would encourage lots of new members & make it easier for existing members to renew, thereby increasing subscription revenue? So perhaps the loss of income from a few advertisements wouldn't have such an impact, & CILIP could take a principled stand against low pay?
