I note that the front page of the latest "Gazette" extolls the virtues of 
using volunteers in libraries. Perhaps the BL could save itself £16,000 by 
"employing" volunteers only. That is to say, people whose independence of 
means delivers them from the problems of trying to pay one's way while 
living in London. I noted also, btw, that the idea of opposing the use of 
volunteers is said to be a fading "ideology". But I clearly digress 
slightly...
