Morning all,

I’ve recently taken over as librarian in a small mental health library within a mental health NHS trust.  Our current book stock (about 7000 titles) is classified using two classification schemes – one developed in house used for the bulk of the collection, and a smaller section of books classified using NLM classification.  I have been asked to consider transferring the whole collection onto one, nationally recognised scheme, but NLM looks a bit too general for our very specialised collection. Is there anyone out there running a similar sort of library and using NLM classification?  Do you find it adequate for your needs?  Also, I’d be very interested to hear from anyone using other classification scheme – what do you use? Why? Does it generally do the job?

Any help or advice would be very gratefully received.

Vicky
