We have been working with teams working towards Bournemouth University PDU accreditation for a couple of years.

Each team seems to want a slightly different input from librarians. The following are a list of the things we are doing:

attend multiprofessional team meetings
attend network meetings e.g. CNS meetings
attend PDU meetings
searches e.g finding the evidence to support clinical pathways, succession planning etc
training e.g. search skills, critical appraisal, IT skills such as using publisher & hot linking
set up and support journal clubs
current awareness, alerting service
dissemination of information using Trust web sites and shared network drives
provide a non-clinical viewpoint

Several of our teams have attained accreditation status and are now working towards their reviews, and some teams are just starting.

Once we got ourselves involved (via champions and just being plain pushey) we have all found it very rewarding. For additional feedback see the "Clinical Librarian Project Report"  under library documents on our web site http://www.wehct.nhs.uk/library/

Good luck

Subject: practice development units

Dear all (or at least - all those of you not currently on a beach somewhere...!)

One of our mental health nurses tells me their trust is working towards having practice development unit status. Is anyone out there aware of similar developments elsewhere? And, if so, what kind of support have you been asked for or able to give, and how have you been involved? I believe that somewhere in Bournemouth is doing something similar, so if that's you I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks, as ever

Sara
