Brian Walden was being interviewed yesterday about public service
broadcasting, and I think what he said is similar to the position of library
services (and by implication librarians).   Public service broadcasting he
said should not be chasing glamour or ratings, or the big bucks.  It should
though continue to be there because it is deeply valued, if not
superficially appreciated.   I'd rather be deeply appreciated than
superficially valued.

Seriously, this debate has been going on for the twenty years that I've been
in the profession.  When are we actually going to do something about it?
