WRITING FOR THE WEB, WRITING FOR PEOPLE
16 February 2006, London

When producing content for either the Internet or the intranet, authors are faced with a
dilemma - the content has to be readable and informative for the people who will read
the page, but it also needs to attract search engines which will rank the relevance of
the page.

This workshop looks at both issues and provides information and suggestions on how
to walk the people/search engine tightrope successfully.

BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
·	understood the principles of writing content on the web
·	understood how search engines work & how they rank pages
·	appreciated methods other than search engines to attract people to their web

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is designed for library & information staff who either have to write
content for web pages themselves, manage staff who do this, or who have to advise or
edit content provided by other colleagues.

SPECIAL NOTE ON ATTENDANCE:
This workshop concentrates on content and design, not copywriting or web page
coding, so participants will need a good understanding of the web. An appreciation of
the practical aspects of writing pages would be an advantage. Participants should have
spent at least two years using the web from a searchers perspective.

Included in the workshop fee will be a copy of Phil Bradley's book 'Getting and
staying noticed on the web'.

WORKSHOP LEADER: PHIL BRADLEY
Phil's background is in the information profession and he is a highly experienced
trainer, web designer and Internet consultant. He is well known as the author of the
acclaimed Advanced Internet Searcher's Handbook
