EVIDENCE BASED HEALTHCARE ON THE WEB: FINDING THE INFORMATION THAT MATTERS
30 November 2005, London

A phenomenal amount of medical and healthcare information can be easily found on the web, but much of this information is at best of poor quality and at worst downright dangerous. This hands-on workshop cuts through the maze and focuses on reliable, solid information freely available on the web, with an emphasis on sources of evidence based information.

BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
This workshop is designed to help participants find and use a whole range of sources of evidence based healthcare information.

BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
·	looked beyond well known sources such as the Cochrane Library
·	gained a clear understanding of the importance of evidence based information
·	investigated the internet mailing lists dedicated to evidence based healthcare
·	identified the 5 levels of evidence and explored the relative merits of different types of documents found on the web
·	learned where to find - and how to use - many of the key sources of evidence based healthcare information available on
      the web
·	discovered how to use methodology filters to search specifically for evidence based documents

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The workshop is suitable for anyone with a basic knowledge of the internet and will cover evidence based healthcare information intended for both healthcare professionals and the public.

It is not a workshop on evidence based medicine or critical appraisal, and no knowledge of evidence based healthcare is required.

The workshop will benefit information and healthcare professionals working in NHS hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, medical schools and other healthcare organisations. Information of relevance to all healthcare professions will be covered, including medical, pharmaceutical, nursing, dental, PAMs and PCDs.

WORKSHOP LEADER: ALAIN BESSON
Alain Besson, Information Skills Librarian, St Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry (Queen Mary, University of London).
