Usage Statistics Training Seminar

Friday 9 December 2005

University of Oxford

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This one-day training seminar, organised by UKSG and Project COUNTER, will
give a practical hands-on introduction for library staff on accessing,
collating, utilising, presenting, and marketing e-journal usage statistics,
both COUNTER-compliant and otherwise.  The latest news on COUNTER activities
will also be presented, and experts from different sectors will provide
their perspectives on the role and importance of usage statistics from a
number of different standpoints. Future developments in the provision and
exploitation of use measurement statistics will also be covered.
Please note:  In order to offer participants hands-on experience, attendance
at this training seminar will be limited to 30, and will be restricted in
this instance to library staff.  UKSG and COUNTER plan to run other training
seminars on this topic around the UK, and hope to include those working in
other sectors in the future.
For the hands-on session a basic knowledge of IT would be beneficial but the
session leaders will provide clear examples of the operations and
calculations needed.
Whilst recognising the widespread interest in usage statistics, this first
training seminar, in what is planned to be a series, will be restricted to
library staff – the group that perhaps more than any other is looking for
clear guidance and help in this area.  Those attending are invited to
consult the Project COUNTER website (www.projectcounter.org
<http://www.projectcounter.org/> ) in advance, although the COUNTER Codes,
etc. will be fully covered during the seminar.
