SEMINAR DETAILS

Information Literacy with Debbi Boden (Imperial College London) and Dr Jane Secker (London School of Economics)
Monday 17 October 2005 (6-8pm)

Information Literacy - everyone's talking about it but what does it actually mean, who needs it and how can you make it happen? This event answers these and other questions through an outline explanation of the background to IL. Examples of IL policies and strategies will be examined as will the future relations with e-literacy and media literacy. Practical hands-on sessions will provide an opportunity to assess two online IL programmes; one aimed at library users, the other a staff-development programme aimed at library staff.

This course is aimed primarily at those new to the information profession and those with an interest in IL from the perspectives of public, health, academic and commercial libraries. The course is delivered by experts who have created policy, developed strategy and engineered practical systems in this exciting field.

On completion you will have a clear understanding of IL definitions and how IL fits in with overall library strategies; you will have first hand experience of using an online IL system; you will appreciate the relevance and opportunity for developing an IL approach within your own library or information service.
