Hello,

At the start of the new term one of our LRCs is going to run a pilot
scheme.

All student assignments at this site will be handed in at the LRC
counter. They will then be collected or sent to tutors.

We are keen to get this running as smoothly as possible and have
discussed using receipt books and the like.

However, I know some institutions use a computer package to handle this
sort of thing.

As I understand it, it works something like this: students are given
cover sheets for their assignments which have a barcode on them.

When the assignment is handed in, it is scanned against the students ID
card and a receipt is printed.

As this would seem to be a quick and efficient method for handling this
task, I would be grateful if anyone who uses this sort of set up could
let me know:

1. If it works well.

2. If you encountered any pitfalls or problems, when setting it up
or when running it.

3. The name of the software package(s) that handles this type of
transaction.

Please send your replies to me at [log in to unmask] and I will
summarise for the list later.

Thanks. Mike
