The Career Development Group (London & South East Divisions) and ILIG, the International Library and Information Group, cordially invite you to

"Rising from the Rubble: Tsunami Devastates Sri Lankan Libraries" by Premila Gamage,
Member of the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) Tsunami Library Development Project and Secretary of the Twinning and Adoption Task Force of the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Committee for Libraries, Information Services and Archives

on Wednesday 24th August 6-8pm at the Ewart Room, CILIP HQ

Around 53 public libraries, 177 school libraries and 68 libraries attached to religious institutions were severely damaged by the tsunami in Sri Lanka. In addition, a few museums and a considerable number of private libraries were also affected.

The Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) has started a project to assist with the rehabilitation of libraries and information services destroyed or damaged by the tsunami. The opportunity has been taken not only to rebuild, but also to develop libraries, to place them in a vital position to play positive roles in the Government's ambitious plans to establish an e-Lanka.

Rathgama Sirisumana Vidyalaya School, situated along the coastal belt, has been considerably affected by the tsunami; the library resources have been almost completely destroyed. CDG International has pledged a £1,000 donation which will be used to provide new furniture for the library and to develop the collection.

After the main talk there would be an opportunity for informal questions and to chat to Premila and other international minded professionals over a glass of wine. This is free event but a £3 voluntary donation towards CDG International Fund is kindly requested.
