"It's not about searching, it's all about finding": fresh wine in new bottles?

The Aslib Engineering Group is planning to host an event which will examine current and future developments in full-text linking bibliographic databases. Representatives from Engineering Village 2, Scopus and the Web of Science will highlight how their products can be used to support the information needs of the engineering community. Following these presentations the discussion will be opened out to address a range of issues including the future role of bibliographic databases, the relative merits of big multidisciplinary resources as against smaller more subject specific sources, the continuing role, if any, of controlled indexing and the funding implications for library managers of trying to provide access to a multiplicity of electronic resources. This discussion is set against a background in which library users readily turn to internet search engines as their information discovery resource of first resort.

The event is provisionally planned for Thursday September 8th 2005 and will be held at the new Aslib HQ offices at the Holywell Centre, Phipp Street, in London. This is an evening event which will start at 6.00 pm and will finish at 8.00pm. The event is free to Group members and £15.00 to non-members. Light refreshments will be provided. Please note that numbers for this event will be limited to 25.
