The LASER Foundation is organising a one day conference on the future of
public libraries. It will be held on Friday 4 March at One Great George
Street, Westminster and will run from 11am until 4pm.

The conference draws upon ideas put together independently by a group of
middle managers in public libraries under the auspices of the LASER
Foundation. One of the key issues to be discussed at the conference is
whether the future public library service should be provided by bodies from
outside of local government. This is particularly pertinent in view of the
Government's interest in alternative models to deliver local government
services.

Speakers include

Andrew MacIntosh, Minister for Heritage and the Media
John McTernan of the Downing Street Policy Unit;
Chris Smith MP, Chief Executive of the Clore Foundation and formerly Culture
Secretary
Charles Leadbeater, author of the Demos report "Overdue",
Chris Trinnick, Chief Executive of Lancashire County Council.

Other speakers will be confirmed in due course.

Numbers are limited to 100. The price is £95, inclusive of lunch and
refreshments. To reserve a place please contact John Hicks on 0118 377 3821
