AN INTRODUCTION TO METADATA Metadata is seen by some as the cataloguing of the future, and by others as an attempt to re-invent the cataloguing wheel. This course doesn't attempt to reconcile those opposing views, but tries to throw some light on how metadata functions in an information context. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? It is intended for any information professional wanting to explore this current aspect of the information management and to consider its effect on library. It is not a detailed training course on using XML and similar technical markup languages, but provides a way in to understanding the issues and examining the benefits.
