TEACHING LARGE GROUPS
15 JUNE 2005, LONDON
 
Many library and information workers are required to give lectures and presentations to large groups e.g. 30 to 1000 people. This is particularly common in educational organisations where library staff are involved in introductory sessions during induction week or as part of an on-going programme of study.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
This workshop will enable participants to develop the skills and attitudes required to design and deliver interactive lectures and presentations to large groups. It will enable them to reduce the stresses that are sometimes involved in this type of work. The workshop is designed to enable participants to take part in a range of practical activities.

BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* understood the principles of designing successful sessions to large groups
* designed a session aimed at a large group
* identified a range of strategies for ensuring that their sessions are interactive and effective

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is designed for library and information staff involved in delivering sessions to large groups. It is relevant to staff at all levels and stages in their career.

WORKSHOP LEADER: BARBARA ALLAN
Barbara's background includes workplace and academic libraries. She is a senior lecturer at Hull University Business School where she is involved in teaching groups of 30 to 450 students. Barbara has written a number of books for Facet Publishing including Training skills for library and information staff, E-learning and training in library and information services, and Project management.
